Here at BEAR Water Restoration and Carpet Cleaning, we’re always looking for easy ways that you can make your home more comfortable and save a buck in the process. Today we’re going to talk about one that you don’t hear too often, as a matter of fact, you may not even know this was an option. So allow us here at BEAR to blow your minds, and tell you all about the benefits of reversing your ceiling fans.
WHY reverse your ceiling fans? At first it sounds silly, they just push air around the room. However, most ceiling fans are set to rotate counter-clockwise by default, and the shape of the blades means that they are primarily pulling air from the floor to the ceiling. This is perfect in the hot summer months because we want the room to cool down and as we all know, cold air falls. This is the exact reason we want to reverse our ceiling fans in the winter. Warm air rises, so when the ceiling fan is reverse to spin clockwise, the blades push the warm air trapped near the ceiling down throughout the room, warming your room by a couple degrees and saving you a few dollars on your heating bill.
As far as the process of reversing your ceiling fan, it’s not quite as complicated as it sounds. Have images in your head of pulling the fan from the ceiling and flipping it upside down? We are quite glad to tell you that you will not need to remove or open the fan in any way to reverse the direction that the blades spin. Most ceiling fans will have a switch somewhere on the fan to reverse the fan direction.
